As many of you are already aware, last night we have decided to pull the plug on

We are well aware that many of you will not take this decision lightly, especially
) r7 U6 T, O* [5 o- lconsidering the bitter aftertaste of StarCraft Ghost, and the disproportional resources " T) C9 }. j% Z0 a R
dedicated to the WarCraft franchise.
7 z6 ]3 a- }/ g* RPrior to making this decision, I have personally sat down with Sales and Marketing, QA ' u0 a0 c/ y+ I7 ?
personnel, developers and artists, progamers and a few community managers. None have
: X @6 F) G: _8 e: Xprovided an answer which could support a different decision. Not a single person was " A8 ~# d$ z) w+ z7 T
able to justify StarCraft 2‘s existence.
7 r u! n) V0 n- P% PWorld of WarCraft is our 800 lb gorilla.
! j1 R' Y3 B. O" }: @) I6 ^) ?6 ^% BNo MMORPG, RTS or FPS game can leave anything more than a dent in Blizzard!s
; A8 M% T8 |% `: Z0 m# @0 d" ^subscriber count. Every single person that reads this letter has a family that benefits from
/ f, Y- m6 G+ V- c" S4 K; nWorld of WarCraft’s existenc and its utter dominance as the most commercially / g e& X* f) I; z( W
successful game of all time. : [9 d' a0 D z; D: o
The only thing that can hurt World of WarCraft‘s subscriber base, is another Blizard * G6 M7 S* j" S
game. We do not expect any other company in the world to be able to subtract as much as . h$ B8 G% T1 C8 h
300,000 subscribers from WoW‘s numbers.
0 x T( d; y1 z0 U& ^2 BHow much will StarCraft 2’s release cost Blizzard Entertainment? 9 D; V0 e4 S6 f1 N6 V
The safest estimates are around 5% of World of WarCraft’s subscriber bas.
4 g# Z! h" c9 @; r# y500,000 users will leave World of Warcraft, taking $90,000,000 worth of yearly
